Prior to FM Tennis, Alim was Tennis Pro at The Woodlands Athletic Club (The Woodlands, Texas) for over three years. At the same time, Alim competed in USTA tournaments. He was ranked as high as #2 in Texas in 2007. One of Alim’s most remarkable victories was the Fort Worth Adult Major Zone tournament. 

In college, Alim was recruited from Russia to come to the United States to play for Illinois State and later for the University of Illinois at Springfield. While at UIS, Alim played line 1 singles and doubles. He was the captain and the voted Most Valuable Player three years in a row. In 2004 and 2005, Alim reached the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Regional tournament’s final. In 2005, he received the Regional Player of the Year Award and was ranked #36 in the nation. For excellence in studies and athletics he received the Ron Gibbs Scholarship Award.

As a junior, Alim competed in tournaments in Russia and Europe. He was ranked #21 in Russia.
